Our Legacy, Our Mission
When families gather at the annual Children's Day celebration, they become part of a legacy started by Summer Love Hansen in 1995. Summer saw hope and possibility in every child, even when times were tough in Long Beach. She hosted the first event with her own funds, determined to provide resources, scholarships, and mentorship to those often overlooked.
Over the years, stories unfolded - a young student winning their first scholarship, a parent discovering support, and a small business owner finding their community.
After Summer's passing in 2025, people inspired by her kindness, like neighbors continuing a cherished tradition, have carried forward her dream. Today, her vision has grown into a movement that brings together families, local businesses, and leaders to invest in children and break cycles of poverty. Every handshake and every scholarship awarded honors Summer's promise: to make the world better for the children who will one day lead.

Make an Impact Together
Every act of support moves a dream closer to reality for a child or family here in Long Beach. When a neighbor volunteers, a sponsor funds a scholarship, or a mentor guides a teen - it sparks change that echoes throughout homes and classrooms. Local businesses who join the Do The Right Thing Council not only gain visibility, they help build economic stability for families overcoming financial hardship. Each partnership, each dollar, directly strengthens community resources like Scholarship Row and mentorship events, breaking barriers for children. Let's grow impact together - your involvement fuels the next chapter of hope.

Why Support Children's Day

Opportunities
Scholarships and mentorships open pathways for local youth, turning dreams of college and meaningful careers into achievable goals. Families who once struggled now celebrate children becoming first-generation graduates and future leaders because the community stepped forward. These resources equip young people with real tools - so their journeys begin with hope, not barriers.
Growth
Supporting our programs means uplifting local entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration, and strengthening the economy for everyone. Through business workshops and the Do The Right Thing Council, even small businesses found new growth and stability by working alongside partners who share a vision of a stronger, unified community.
Recognition
Sponsors and supporters receive public acknowledgment at high-profile events and in the heart of the community, shining a light on those who champion children's causes. Business Council members and partners gain increased visibility, showing families and peers alike how businesses can truly make a difference.
